Without music producers, what would the South African music business be like?

With the year 2021 drawing to a close, it’s only fair to commend these music producers for doing the most this year, demonstrating time and time again that they are the foundation of all sounds you’ve heard.

Mzansi is a sound lover, and the South African music business is recognized for prioritizing producers among all African countries.

The outbreak of the infamous dangerous virus in 2020 coincided with the massive break of the Amapiano genre, which spread far beyond its origins; once again, we owe our gratitude to these music composers.

These producers ruled the year, ensuring that amapiano topped the charts throughout the year by supplying hit tunes.

Before we go into the top 5 hottest producers of the year, it’s worth noting that amapiano music makers dominated the year, thus they’re in the top 5.

Take a look at the list below:

1.  SCORPION KINGS (Kabza De Small and DJ Maphorisa)

The Scorpion Kings – DJ Maphorisa and Kabza De Small made us look forward to each of their releases since they were all hits. This year, the two had some of the most significant collaborations with other artists. We could have placed the duo separately, but they both gave it their all; yet, we can’t ignore the fact that Kabza is South Africa’s most-streamed musician.
Hit tracks co-produced by the King of Amapiano include: Woza Lawd and Adiwele Izolo and Sithi Shwi are two of Phori’s popular songs.

However, we can’t ignore the top-charting songs on which the two artists collaborated this year: Abalele, Asibe Happy, and Uzozizola.

2. Mellow & Sleazy

Mellow and Sleazy are a well-known musical team that has a long history of delivering popular tunes. The two have been creating since before 2021, however, this year is without a doubt their strongest year in terms of song production: Bopha, Nkao Tempela.

3. Busta 929

Busta Rhymes is the guy behind some of the year’s biggest hits. He’s collaborated with artists such as Boohle, Lady Du, and others. Umsebenzi Wethu, Mmapula, Ngixolele, Beke Le Beke, and a few others are among his successful songs.

4. Felo Le Tee

Tsholofelo Mokhine, better known by his stage name Felo Lee Tee, has been making music for a long time, but the year 2021 stands out for him since his years of dedication have earned him a spot in the top 5. Felo co-produced 66, one of the most popular amapiano anthems.

5. Mr JazziQ

Tumelo Manyoni is Mr J’s stage name, and he’s the man behind some of the tunes that keep your feet tapping at every event and gig. Woza is one of his most popular songs.
